The HVAC conspiracy

Monday, July 31st, 2006

With respect to the thermostat controls installed several months ago, the please read the following info before complaining about the temperature in the building.

Temperatures in each zone are calculated in the following manner:

  • Classroom Zone is an average of the temp at the thermostat in the training room and the sensor in the Board Room
  • Bedrooms Zone is an average of the temp at the thermostat in the hallway leading to Bedroom 2, the sensor in Bedroom 1, and the sensor in Bedroom 3
  • Dayroom Zone is the temperature at the thermostat in the TV room

Also, ALL PERSONNEL going in and out of station 2, PLEASE close the door leading into the bay at the bottom of the stairs. With the door open all the cold air from upstairs comes pouring down and into the bay. On hot days such as today there is no way that the A/C can over come the 20+ degree difference and keep the upstairs cool.First column is time, 2nd is what the heat runs to, 3rd is what the AC cools to.

High temperature alarms are set for each zone at 85 degrees. Low temperature alarms are set for 60. Every thermostat will allow adjustment up/down of ± 2 degrees which will reset to the defined temperatures for each temp schedule at the above hours.

I am happy to discuss the limits and times for the above HVAC zones.

Front door repaired

Monday, July 31st, 2006

The front door has been completely replaced and is now back in service. Both the door and the door frame were replaced with new metal ones. This door also opens out which should make it easier to leave the building as you hurray to a call as well as putting less strain on the door locking mechanism.

As there isn’t a combo look on this door, you will be required to use your access card.

If you have problems getting in, please contact your supervisor or email me.

HeraldSun.com article on yesterday’s flooding

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

The Herald Sun has a bit more of a write up today. http://www.heraldsun.com/orange/10-755721.html

“During the worst of the downpour, officials became concerned someone was trapped in a car in the low-lying parking lot outside Village Self-Storage. Onlookers gathered as volunteers from the South Orange Rescue Squad launched a small boat to investigate the stranded vehicles. The cars were found to be unoccupied, and the owners’ whereabouts were unknown.”

“Orange Water and Sewer Authority recorded some 4.2 inches of rainfall for the day at its Jones Ferry Road plant in Carrboro.

It was the most rainfall recorded for a single day at the Jones Ferry plant since Jan. 24, 2000, when 5.1 inches fell, said Ed Kerwin, executive director of OWASA. The rainfall six years ago did serious damage, such as washing out a portion of Piney Mountain Road and exposing an OWASA water main. “

Clint and I spent some time earlier today mocking up the checker board based on design rev v10 (previous design). If you’d like to see it, swing by the station.

Here’s a very quick and dirty overlay of the v11 design on the driver’s side of the door

Water Rescue call – South Greensboro St

Wednesday, July 26th, 2006

Big thanks to those of you who responded to the TRT call earlier this afternoon. Carrboro FD requested TRT to come check cars that were fllooded up to the roofline. South Greensboro St was closed down with water pouring across it that was at least a foot and a half deep and 40 feet across.

At 1556 this afternoon the NWS gauge at the Horace Williams Airport had registered 1.33″ of rain in just one hour. Rocky Brook mobile home park in Carrboro had a dozen residents evacuated by the FD.
Cancro and I went for a paddle while Jordan ran shore operations and liaised with Command.

New blog, new ambulance. Seems kind of appropriate. SORS’s new ambulance (a TypeIII E450 from McCoy Miller) was delivered to the squad last week. It’s now sitting in the bay awaiting it’s trip to Mincey’s for lettering the end of this week.
